Elysium Girls Bring Home Another State Title

The doubles tandem of Lauren Bellinger and Sarah Stein (Dublin Jerome) won the Division I State Championship by defeating fellow Elysium players Lauren Ghidotti and Katie Shepherd (Bishop Watterson) in a three set thriller. All four girls made it to the state semis for the second straight season. The Jerome girls improved on their runner-up performance in 2010 and Watterson improved on their fourth place finish.

Junior My Linh Li (St. Francis DeSales), won the state doubles title with her older sister (Kim My) in 2009 and she had to sit out of the state tourney in 2010 due to injury. This year she entered the tourney healthy, with a ton of confidence and ready to make a run at another title. My Linh won her first two rounds to make it to the semis where she came up short to the defending and eventual champion. She was able to compose herself and after being down a set in the third and fourth place match, to come back and win 6-2 in the third to place third in the state.

Three other Elysium players participated in the OHSAA tournament, Rachael Morales (Hartley), Anna Sanford (Olentangy Orange), and Emma Stein (Dublin Jerome) with Anna and Emma both losing in the quarterfinals to the eventual runner-up and champion in Division I. Rachael bowed out in the first round to the eventual runner-up in Division II.

Dublin Jerome won the Division I team State Championship with many Elysium members on the team. Congrats to Elysium players Lauren Bellinger, Maddy Easdale, Sofia Gomez, Emma Stein, Sarah Stein who helped Jerome win their first team state championship.

Congrats to all participants, we are very proud of you!
